Wisconsin judge holds election officials in contempt for defying purge of 209,000 voters

"A Wisconsin judge has found the state's election commission and some of its members in contempt for failing to comply with an order to immediately purge more than 200,000 voters from the state's rolls.
Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge Paul Malloy said the Wisconsin Elections Commission must begin deactivating the 209,000 voter registrations belonging to people believed to have moved. If it does not, three of its six commissioners will be fined $250 per day until they comply with a December order to remove the voters from the rolls. The commission also faces a fine of $50 per day.
Three of the six members of the commission voted not to take action on the list of voters flagged for removal. ...
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, said in a statement he is "disappointed" by the ruling.
'The outcome of this case will impact the voter registrations of well over 100,000 Wisconsinites,' he said. 'Appellate review of such a consequential decision is clearly appropriate, and the Wisconsin Elections Commission has diligently sought such review.' ..."

About CAPTURING THE FLAG
In 2013, in Shelby County v. Holder, the Supreme Court invalidates the part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act requiring certain states to submit changes in voting laws to the Justice Department for approval. Almost immediately, certain states take voter suppression measures such as enacting voter ID laws, redrawing district boundaries, and repealing same-day registration.
Three months before the 2016 election, a group of volunteers across the country mobilizes to work on voter protection — to observe elections and to assure that all those who wish to vote are legally allowed to do so. Laverne Berry, Steven Miller, and Claire Wright head to North Carolina. What they find at the polls serves as both a warning and a call to action for anyone interested in protecting the "One Man, One Vote" fundamental of our democracy.
Dealing with themes that are constantly sensationalized and manipulated by the media — Left vs. Right, North vs. South, Black vs. White — CAPTURING THE FLAG offers instead deeply personal, often surprising perspectives on the 2016 Presidential Election and its aftermath.
